Kimberly “Kim” Berfield was elected to Florida House District 58 (in Pinellas County) November 2022. She is the Vice Chair for Healthcare Regulation on the Joint Administrative Procedures Committee and Ways & Means Committee and is a sitting member to the following subcommittees: Children, Families & Seniors, Education Quality, Infrastructure & Tourism Appropriations and Postsecondary Education & Workforce.
Representative Berfield has had over $8 million in appropriations returned to Pinellas County and her voting record focuses on morals, ethics, represents her community voters and what is he best interest of Floridians.
A few key pieces of Berfield’s legislation from the 2023 session include:
House Bill 825 – Assault or Battery on Hospital Personnel: A bill that became law escalates assault or battery on healthcare workers to a higher classification of crime.
House Bill 1119 Withholding or Withdrawal of Life-Prolonging Procedures: Assurance that vulnerable Floridians are protected during their end of life. Consistency, responsibility, and protection between those who take on guardianship responsibilities and the wishes of individuals who become their wards are covered in this bill.
Representative Berfield’s leadership experience at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital and WellCare Health Plans, Inc., provides inside knowledge of how health issues and public policies impact our families and friends.
Previously serving as a state representative prior to redistricting in November 2000, she was subsequently re-elected for two terms. Her appointment by the Governor of Florida to serve as Deputy Secretary of the Florida Department of Health provided her continuance with public service while being name Florida’s Officer of Women’s Health Strategy and spokesperson for the Tobacco Free Florida Campaign.
Kimberly has demonstrated her service to Pinellas County for decades through involvement with the Clearwater Homeless Intervention Program, Leadership Pinellas, American Cancer Society, Advisory Council Representative on the U.S. 19 Task Force, Metropolitan Planning Council, Clearwater East Rotary Club, Friends of the Library and many other organizations.
Representative Berfield earned a Master in Business Administration from Northeastern University and is proud alumna from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor in Communication where has been acknowledged with an “Accomplished Alumnae Member” designation from UCF.
